It’s September, and it’s starting to feel like fall is just around the corner. I don’t think I’m ready for summer to end, so let’s hope for a few more beautiful sunny days. The orchards around the valley are picking Bartlett pears, just in time for this weekends “Pear Celebration“! If you’re out for a drive, be sure to follow the “Fruit Loop” up through our gorgeous valley, and take in some serene sites. We will have samples of our Famous Gorge Wind Tea, and Lavender Mint Shortbread. We have tons of jars of our yummy Lavender Cherry Pear Marmalade for sampling in our retail cottage. Also, we are having 2-for-1 U-Pick Lavender bouquets all weekend!

On this special weekend, we celebrate our Mother’s! I want to pause and think about all the many ways my mother gave her loving caring, and nurturing guidance to me. I love music, because my mother played the organ & piano at home and church. I love baking, because my mother always baked home-made bread for our family. My joy of caring for others comes from my Mom too. These are just a few aspects of how my sweet Mother’s loving touch made a dynamic impact on my life!

While you’re out for an afternoon drive with your Mother, drop by our farm for a sample of my favorite Lavender Mint Shortbread, to enjoy along with our Lavender Mint Tea. Sit a spell in our lavender garden and watch our humming birds dance around our covered patio, enjoy the gorgeous mountain views, and just “relax with Mom”.
To kick off holiday shopping, we are having Open House this weekend at our Lavender farm. I’m giving out samples of my newest recipe, “Holiday Shortbread”, that contains Culinary Lavender, Anise Extract, Orange Rind, and Macadamia Nuts. Along with the shortbread we have samples of our most popular tea, Mint Medley Tea, and our new tea, “Holiday Lavender Chai Mate”.
Out in the garden I’m digging up my Dahlia bulbs for the winter, pruning dead foliage, & cleaning up around the garden.
When I sit on the patio, enjoying the sunny afternoon, I’ll read a book, and complete a Sudoku puzzle. I do a lot of erasing. 🙂 Enjoy the weekend.
Today I made some Lavender Mint Shortbread dough. I wrapped it in saran wrap, and refrigerated it for a few days, so the flavors could meld together. I’ll bake them this weekend for a Breast Cancer fund raiser we’re doing at our lavender farm. This is my favorite cookie recipe. It’s a beautiful unique combination of flavors with Culinary Lavender and mint. I add 2 tablespoons Culinary Lavender “Signature Blend”, and 1 tablespoon mint to a simple basic shortbread recipe.
