One of my favorite things at Christmas time is Christmas “Stollen” German Bread, and Christmas “Panettone” Italian Bread, shaped in a folded oval, then curved into a crescent shape. It is filled with candied fruit, raisins, nuts, Anise, and Vanilla. It is a tradition that I love to do for the family. But this year I got all caught up in the busyness of the season, and almost forgot, until Joe, my husband, reminded me that I hadn’t made any for him!!!!! So last night, I baked some Christmas “Stollen”. Oh the smell of it baking in the oven, and then warm with butter, and Soy Nog!!! Enjoy your family, and special friends, and have a Merry Christmas!! Live simply and peaceful!!! Oh Holy Night!!
Now, it is winter for sure, as I look out my window and see 16-18″ of a beautiful white blanket of fresh falling snow. I’ve packed enough web orders to go out just in time for Christmas, now I’ve got to get outside and play a little!! Thankfully the temp. has risen to 32′, from 8′ last week. I think I’ll get on my cross-country skiis,(I don’t need to drive to the ski slope
s, I have it here) and ski around our snow covered Lavender Farm, through the pear orchard, and down the road to visit, and deliver a Christmas card to a dear widow who lives alone, with her 5 cats that she rescued. She is a delight to be around, at 84 years old, she still has a wonderful sense of humor.
The ski trip has invigorated me a lot. Wherever you live, get outside to enjoy the beauty around you, and share wonderful moments with family and friends. Have a wonderful holiday.
We are preparing for a Christmas show this weekend in Odell. I am busy, as some say, in Santa’s workshop, making products for the show , and filling web orders, so they will arrive in time for Christmas. We are in full swing for Christmas, and it gets intense, but not tense, well not too much………….The Last Chance Christmas Bazaar is the very first show we did 4 years ago. I can still remember, and I wish I had a photo to show you!!! Oh you would howl!!!! Now we have upgraded a bit since that day, thanks to my awesome sister, for her tips. What a difference a Black table skirt, and rosemary green tablecloths will make.
This year we decided to participate in this show only because, we wanted to donate a percent of all our sales to a fellow Lavender farmer that passes away this August with Breast Cancer. It is so very painful for her husband and her young, 9 years old, son. And if we can do even a little to help, toward research of this painful disease, we will be humbled to do it!!!! I pause . . . . Peace, calming, peace to Treva’s family….Strength, understanding, peace..wrap them in peace. …We look forward to seeing you at the show. Come support this cause.
Today I worked on several of our small body Wraps, our Tummy Warmer, and our Neck Wraps. These are soothing body comfort wraps designed to soothe sore muscles, ease pain and relieve tension and stress. The Tummy Warmer can be warmed in the microwave and placed on any sore body part. It could even be folded over to use as a neckwrap. To experience the most soothing relief and comfort with your warmed wrap, relax in a comfortable chair or bed, close your eyes, and let go! . . .Breath deeply. . . Take the time this holiday, to slow down, even if only a few moments, it will help you achieve a more calm relaxed spirit.
I want to take this time also, to thank my two wonderful ladies that sew these wraps. I appreciate them immensely, because we sell a lot of these particular body wraps. Big thanks!! My arms are wrapped around you, saying thank you!!!!! Be wrapped in blessings!
We had our annual Open House at our UPick Lavender farm this Thanksgiving weekend. Many customers came out to shop, sample Lavender/mint Shortbread, sip on Hot Lavender Mulled Cider, and enjoy a beautiful fall day. We also had Cathedral Ridge Winery do wine tasting for our weekend event. Between times that I was waiting on customers, I made a few natural Holiday Wreaths with plants in my garden. I used our Red Twig Dogwood bush for the base wreath form. Then I added greenery from the Fir tree, red/orange Rose-hips, and snow-berries. I added some dried Cascade Hops from around our cottage patio, and a few stems from the “Fred Boutin” lavender plants. Fred Boutin is a Lavandin, Hybrid Lavender, and has beautiful frosted foliage that I like a lot. When I finish these wreaths I plan to give one to my daughter, to decorate her door. The other I will give to one of our awesome workers, that helps me maintain the weed control around our Lavender Farms. Today she has spent most of the day clearing out the dried flowers and shrubs from our “Wildflower” section. I appreciate her helpfulness more the she can imagine!!!!!
At this Thanksgiving Holiday, I pause to take time to be thankful for the people in our lives, our family, friends, employees, and customers, each one makes our life richer, and our business a success. We appreciate your support throughout the year, weather it’s dropping by our UPick farm, or shopping on our website!! Your kind words in testimonies and feed back, are all appreciated! We hope you are all enjoying a relaxed Holiday with those special people you love. Be blessed, be happy.
Today I filled our Lavender Comfort Bears. These bears are white 6″ bears, that I opened , and filled with our Lavender, and I changed the floss color of their noses from red to black. When I finished them, I took photos of the bears, to set-up for purchasing on our website. One of our customers is an Eye Clinic where they do cataract surgery. The Clinic gives them to their patients that are recovering and calls them: Eye-Care-Bears. These little bears have found homes all over the world. We have sold literally thousands of them. With a large customer of ours being in the Portland airport and have sold them for years, they have made the trip to destinations unknown. How cool is that? Then I ran outside to enjoy the sunshine on a beautiful fall day, and I found some leaves to rake!!! I love fall!
Today I did some much needed house cleaning in preparation for the holidays. I have a few extra hours in my days now, since our Lavender Farm is closed for the season (except for the occasional opening by appointment). I’ll be the first to tell you that I don’t beat myself up anymore over housework. When I have the time, it will get done, and that’s OK. We are open 10-5, 7 days a week at our UPick Lavender Farm, from April – October, so there are seasons of our life that,…. well my house isn’t immaculate, that’s not what is important at the time… but today, I’ll clean our “humble little abode”, and enjoy everything about it; it’s a new season in our life.
To start with, I did some laundry with an all natural BioKleen laundry powder (no chlorine bleach-no chemicals), because I have Occupational Dermititis in my hands from being a Cosmetologist/Aesthetician for 20 years, and now I brake out with infection anytime I touch a chemical. You can not even imagine how many chemicals there are in hand soap, laundry soap, dish soap, and household cleaners!!!!! In my washer I’m careful to use all natural cleaners that are good for us, and our beautiful environment too. I also add, 1 cup of our Certified Organic, Lavender Hydrosol “distillant water”, to help remove dirt, and give my clothes a fresh clean smell. After I add the Hydrosol, I turn off the wash cycle for 10 minutes to let it soak. Then I run the full cycle. When I put my clothes into the dryer, I add a “Lavender Dryer Bag” to bring even more of the clean fresh lavender aroma into my home.
Then I went on to clean my sink, cupboards, windows & doors (doorknobs too), with our “All Purpose Cleaner” that is 99% Certified Organic ingredients: Our Lavender Hydrosol, and 7 other pure Essentials Oils, Vegetable Glycerin. No harsh chemicals. The natural plant antibactorial, antiseptic qualities do the job. My home is beginning to smell, and look clean and fresh again. Fall is a wonderful time to tidy up around my home in prep. for the holidays. Clean with enjoyment!
With the changing season, I feel peace, and satisfaction having completed a beautiful summer harvest at our Lavender Farm. Now I can relax more, spend time with our family, and slow down to enjoy the coming holiday. Happy Thanksgiving. Lavender Lady 🙂
